Skrillex has had a very impressive career in the few short years that he has been producing his signature dubstep sound. For those that don’t know, Skrillex is arguably one of the largest influencers of the dubstep sound that we know today. But, dubstep, just a few years ago, featured Jamaican-inspired bass lines and vocals, which ultimately took on a very different vibe than what we have today.
Skrillex’s new sound has diversified in ways many never would have expected in the last several months. With his Bangarang EP, Skrillex switched his style to be more melodic, varied his tempo (ranging from 110-140bpm), and collaborated with artists such as Wolfgang Gartner and Krewella. Skrillex’s latest collaboration with Damian Marley returns dubstep to its Jamaican roots, with a heavy bass line and a vocal by Damian Marley. In fact, the chorus to “Make it Bun Dem” a.k.a. “Sneak Attack” is the only time the signature Skrillex sound emerges.
